What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?

As described by Above the Law, SEO is essentially a “marketing strategy designed to improve and increase traffic to a business’ website”.

Azency categorises SEO into three groups:

1. On-page SEO

This focuses on how your website’s content can help you rank higher on search engine results pages (SERP). This includes techniques such as utilising relevant keywords and optimising imagery in order to provide your website’s visitors with engaging content.

2. Off-page SEO

These are methods to improve your search ranking that are not to do with your website’s content. This usually takes the form of backlinks – links that come from other websites which lead to your website. Backlinks are either done:

  • naturally e.g. when someone likes your company and gives you a free endorsement via a backlink on their website, or
  • manually e.g. specifically asking other relevant websites to provide a backlink to your website.

3. Technical SEO

Looking at the more technical or backend side of your website to provide a better end user experience – think page loading times, site structure and mobile friendliness.
